Linux Lampost
Never heard of it? I don’t blame you, it is a brand-new idea. Linux Lampost is a concept created by cyxodus of the Ubuntu Forums. It is a desktop environment in which icons can be resized, rotated, or even flipped over.
cyxodus hopes to eventually have WINE and maybe even VirtualBox support in Linux Lampost, so that a very high level of program integration between multiple operating systems, with Linux as the host, can be achieved.
Unfortunately, Linux Lampost is still an idea. A very good idea, but still an idea. There is no digital incarnation of it… yet. I have offered to help with the project and suggested a number of ways to make creation of an initial version easier - base it off iDesk, use Xfce components until custom ones are written, use Arch as a base, and so on. I hope that something usable and recognisable as a first version will be finished and published as soon as possible.
