So I finally got around to setting up Flash in Opera…
I finally decided to bother setting up Flash in Opera, after I found that the nice graphs Wordpress uses for stats are flash-based. Now, I had previously been using Firefox for Flash, as the latest stable version of Opera doesn’t work with Flash. However, the switching of browsers irritated me, and anyways, my whole laptop slowed down when Firefox was open - it is just such a resource hog compared to Opera!
Anyway, off to the trusty Internet, source of all knowledge, I went. After a little googling, I found that there was no way to use the Flash plugin in my current version of Opera, and I would have to upgrade to Opera 9.50 BETA.
To be honest, I expected this to be difficult - as all my settings and suchlike were for my version of Opera. It was actually really easy. Here are the steps I had to do:
# yaourt -Rs flashplugin opera firefox
# yaourt -S opera-devel flashplugin-opera
I then started Opera, and it offered to migrate everything in ~/.opera to the new format. I was then prompted to restart Opera to effect the changes. I did so, and everything looked great! It’s using less memory, but I haven’t been using it long enough to see what else has been changed.
Now for the acid test - does Flash work? The answer is, yes! I navigated to my blog stats and as soon as the page loaded I was presented with the nice animation of a graph "drawing" itself, if that is what you would call the effect…
All in all, I am one happy bunny. Opera 9.50 is working perfectly, Flash is working perfectly, and I can rid myself of Firefox! Yay!
